Abstract

This study investigates the technological process of obtaining N-Methylpyrrolidone
(NMP) from γ-butyrolactone and methylamine under controlled temperature and pressure conditions. The
synthesis process was carried out in three consecutive stages — condensation, cyclization, and
purification. The experimental work was conducted at the Central Laboratory of “Navoiyazot”.
The physical and chemical properties of the obtained product — including boiling point, pH
stability, solubility, and thermal stability — were analyzed and compared with standard industrial NMP.
The results showed that the synthesized NMP possesses almost the same key properties as the commercial
product, demonstrating excellent solvent capacity and high chemical stability. It was also found that the
purification stage plays a crucial role in product quality, as the presence of unreacted γ-butyrolactone
negatively affects purity.
Additionally, the cost analysis indicated that technological optimization can make locally produced
NMP a cost-effective alternative to imported products.
In conclusion, the technology developed under the conditions of “Navoiyazot” can be applied as a
technically and economically competitive alternative in the chemical, petrochemical, and pharmaceutical
industries.
