Abstract

The study was conducted to evaluate the effect of biogas slurry combined with the inorganic fertilizer on the growth and yield performance of red onion (Allium cepa L.). This study was designed with four treatments having five replicates. Treatments are T1 with recommended fertilizer (control treatment), T2 -1:1, T3-1:2 and T4 -1:3 (slurry: water on the volume basis). Except the control treatment 1/3 of recommended fertilizers by Department of Agriculture (RDOA) were applied to the other treatments. All agronomic practices were done according to the DOA recommendation. Canopy height, number of leaves were measured at weekly interval. Fresh and dry weight of plant, Bulb diameter, number of bulbs and yield were measured at the time of harvesting (6th week after planting). Analysis of variance was performed to determine significant differences among the treatments (p<0.05) by using Minitab 17.0 software. The results showed that these treatments, combining with inorganic fertilizers with biogas slurry significantly enhanced the growth and yield performance (T3 and T4) compared to the control treatment (T1). Especially in the T4 concentration than the other treatments, this treatment significantly enhanced plant height up to 52.14±2.79 cm, leaf number up to 8.60±0.24, and bulb’s diameter up to 2.70±0.05 cm. The findings suggest that biogas slurry can serve as an effective organic foliar fertilizer combined with inorganic fertilizer, contributing to improved growth and potentially higher yield in red onion cultivation.
